Squirrel Stack (we are hiring) is a parody project designed to poke fun at the ever-changing, overly-hyped world of software engineering. It includes completely made-up tools like NutToggle™ and Acornlytics, powered by fake AI, probable squirrels, and highly questionable design patterns.
None of this is real. Except the humor. And the CSS. And maybe the existential dread of debugging production during a squirrel migration.

I'm a 20+ year senior engineering leader. Most recently I've been operationalizing agentic AI across the full software development lifecycle, where the pilots actually became production infrastructure instead of demos. I've shipped under HIPAA, SOC 2, ISO 27001, HL7/FHIR, and Epic EMR integration; led engineering orgs from 10 to 175+ at 99.95% SLA; and currently run a multi-model strategy across Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, AWS Kiro, OpenAI Codex, Gemini, and Snowflake Cortex. The serious version of all this lives at rjl.dev.
Squirrel Stack is what happens when you've sat through enough sprint plannings, AI vendor demos, and "let's circle back" Slack threads to recognize that the industry deserves a sustained, lovingly specific roast. Everything on this site is fiction -- Squirrel-GPT 5, NutToggle, Steve, the Great Snack Outage of 2025. The frustration that produced it is not. If any of these jokes hit too close to home, your stack and mine are probably built from the same nuts.
Squirrel Stack began in 2020 after a whiteboard architecture review got interrupted by a squirrel carrying what looked like a production credential. The original pitch deck had 47 slides. Slide 23 was titled "TAM: Every Tree." The Series Pre-Seed-Pre-Seed was funded entirely by Apple gift cards from a 2018 hackathon. We have not raised since.
Six years later, we have 147 microservices, one AI model that signs Slack posts with a tail emoji, and an SLA that reads "we will try, weather permitting."

Proudly backed by an anonymous LP we are pretty sure is just a guy. He sends us nuts seasonally. We do not have his contact info. He may also be Steve.
